BEHIND THE BRAND

Something that you should know about me is that I am very much a possession person, I LOVE THINGS ~collecting physical goodies that hold and help me remember treasured memories~. After I finished high school I took all my savings and went off overseas, it was there I really started to realise that an item is not just an end product. There is a huge journey between the beginning to the completion of anything. I found my love for traditional techniques, skills that had been passed down in families generation after generation. I also found the shocking truth behind a lot of the things that I loved. Mass production is killing our world and destroying cultures rapidly. As a society, we have begun replacing beautiful slowly hand made items with churned out toxic flimsy copies. Generational skills and art are no longer becoming a viable way of life and are being forgotten. This is not ok.

It was from here that I decided I wanted to really do something about this, to help provide other humans with memory keepsakes that don’t cost the planet but instead nurture it to grow.

I started out with a big dream and had to hustle very hard to get myself in a financial situation where I could start putting it to work.  I am very proud of how hard I have worked  to get this baby off the ground (This included a job in a -30 freezer lugging boxes at 2 am to get here~ it was GRIM  ((photo proof below))

After I reached my savings target I jetted off to India to intern with the Saheli Women, a female-run social enterprise/ slow fashion atelier. This trip was a whirlwind of learning, sourcing, adventuring and boogying that unfortunately got cut short due to COVID.

 I got home, worked my butt off for 6 months and now we are here! I'm officially launching Dusk and Lou, a slow sustainable environmentally conscious fashion, jewellery, homewares and art boutique. 
And this is just the beginning.
